Student Reflection - Sophomore Luke Olsen

My name is Luke Olsen, and I’m a sophomore at OSU majoring in financial planning and minoring in music (I play the double bass). I’m from Bartlesville OK, and have attended St. Luke’s there for most of my life. 

I joined Canterbury as a freshman, following in my older brother’s footsteps. I’ve been loving it ever since. Not only is it a place to stay connected with God, but it has also been a place where I can feel at peace, rest, eat, and most importantly, connect with fellow members and form new friendships. For me, Canterbury is a place for both continuation and growth.

Canterbury went through a transition phase last year, where we moved from a church to a house. It was not the first change, and it certainly won’t be the last. The ease in which we handled that transition demonstrated the group’s adaptability and faith—two traits I think are very important for people to possess. Regardless of our changing environment, Canterbury’s core elements have remained the same: the people, the service, the long wooden table crammed full of hungry college students. This is the environment that I have grown so much to enjoy. Canterbury reminds me that we don’t need a church built of carved stone, polished wood, and stained glass to feel our connection to god and each other. In the end, it’s the people that make the difference in a spiritual life.
